Hokusai’s landscape painting from 1830-1841 is a wonderful panorama set in his native Japan. It beautifully captures the customs and atmosphere of the region. This particular piece pays homage to the poet Sarumaru Dayu from the Heian period. Though much about him remains mysterious, experts believe he wrote all the works attributed to him.
Hokusai also created an impressive series called “One Hundred Poems Clarified by the Nurse” that illustrates some of Japan’s best-known poetic works. This demonstrates his admiration for poetry and his enjoyment of trying to interpret it.
