Japanese art, an evolved and distinctive art. Japanese painting is the art of Japan. It is a picture or drawing made with paint, or a work of art painted in the traditional Japanese method. In Japanese art, there are many styles and genres of art specific to each era, but the fundamental principles of aesthetics are based on practices from over a thousand years ago. The best known traditional Japanese styles are Yamato-E, SUMI-E and UKIYO-E.

Reciprocal influence with Chinese and Western paintings

Throughout the history of Japanese art, Chinese culture and practices have greatly influenced Buddhist painting, landscape ink painting and calligraphy. Japanese paintings have always been inspired by them. From the end of the sixteenth century, Japanese paintings and picture-making were imported into European countries, and many European artists were influenced by them.
Japanese painting continues to evolve
One of the main themes of Japanese painting is the depiction of scenes of daily life, narrative scenes that are usually composed of several characters. This traditional style has been perpetuated to this day in Manga and anime.
