However, during his young adult years, he tried his hand at something a bit different – caricature portraiture. This Caricature of Mario Uchard by Monet was created in 1857-1860.
In Monet’s own words “At fifteen, I was known as a caricaturist across Le Havre. People from all over would come to me to ask for a caricature, and because of the meager pocket money I received from my parents, I decided to start selling the portraits I was making. In a matter of weeks, my customer base had already doubled. Had I continued, I would be a millionaire by now! I became quite popular in the city, and suddenly, I was “someone”.
