Claude Monet’s series of paintings from the First World War included the giant art piece, Iris, measuring approximately 2 meters. This painting featured a collection of plant and floral forms, and without an observable horizon or distinct layout, the artist’s intent was to submerge and disorient the viewer. The painting remained in Monet’s studio in Giverny until the 1950s, when it was acquired by Katherine Kuh of the Art Institute of Chicago. Kuh highlighted the similarities between Monet’s abstract painting and the public’s interest in contemporary and large-scale works. This Iris provides an unforgettable aesthetic experience.
