Pop Art, as a modern art movement, appeared in the mid 50’s in England, then as a counter-movement in America. It has always inspired artists all over the world, the term Pop Art being synonymous with popular art, it still has a very particular influence in the art world today. Pop Art reached its peak in the 1960s. In Pop Art paintings, everyday things and objects, but also comics and advertising material are represented in a recognizable and absurd way.
What characterizes Pop Art?
Familiar motifs and representations from everyday life or from the media and advertising can be described as a characteristic feature of Pop Art. Even when presented in an absurd way or taken out of context, they will always be recognizable as examples. The term “anti-art” found its critical defense through the use of trivial objects in Pop Art. In a radical way, artists such as James Rosenquist, in particular, approached billboards with XXL formats. Typical of the movement is the use of pure or primary colors, with elements clearly delineated with black lines.
