The Bedroom – Van Gogh – 1889
The Bedroom – Van Gogh is an important piece of artwork painted by the beloved artist. He drew 3 versions of this composition at different stages of his life. The first one in 1888 was made shortly after he moved to the yellow house in Arles which was the first house he lived in. After decorating the walls with his art, Van Gogh became so exhausted that he laid down his brush for a two and a half day rest. Thus the inspiration for the painting of his bedroom was born. The piece symbolizes relaxation, peace, and repose for the artist. Experts, however, see the painting as being filled with nervous energy, instability, and agitation. This energetic look is further enhanced by the jarring perspective of the picture.
